গাঁয়ের রাজু মিঠাইওয়ালা ছিল এক নম্বরের ঠগ আর জোচ্চোর। লোক ঠকানোই ছিল তার ব্যবসা। পয়সা নেবে বেশি, আর জিনিস দেবে কম আর বাসি। গাঁয়ে আর মিঠাইয়ের দোকান ছিল না বলে সকলে বাধ্য হয়েই রাজুর দোকান থেকেই জিনিস কিনত। রাজুকে দেখলে বোঝবার জো নেই সে কোনও ছলচাতুরী জানে। কপালে চন্দনের ফোঁটা, গলায় তুলসীর মালা। আর তার মালা জপার বহর দেখলে মনে হয় সে যেন পাপীদের উদ্ধার করবার জন্যই পৃথিবীতে এসেছে। লোক ঠকিয়ে রাজু পয়সাও করেছে অনেক। গরিব লোককে সে টাকা ধার দেয় বটে, কিন্তু সময়মতো সুদ না পেলে তাদের সঙ্গে এমন ব্যবহার করে যাতে মনে হয়, তার মতো কসাই আর ভূ-ভারতে দু’টি নেই।
পাড়ার ছেলেরা রাজুকে দেখলে ছড়া কাটে –

আস্ত কসাই।
রাজু ওসব কথায় কোনওদিনই কান দেয় না। মুখে সে ভারি মিষ্টিভাষী। মিষ্টি কথা না-বললে লোকে তার দোকানে আসবে কেন ? ব্যবসা তো তাকে চালাতে হবে। পাশের গাঁয়ের হরিপদ খুব তুখোড় ছেলে। গায়ে তার যেমন বল, দৌড়ানোতেও সে ঠিক তেমনি পাকা। একবার শহরে একটা দৌড়ের প্রতিযোগিতা হয়েছিল। তাতে প্রথম হয়ে মেডেল পেয়েছিল এই হরিপদ।

পশিত আত্মীয়রূপ। আজি তাহা নাশি
চিত্ত যেথা ছিল সেথা এল দ্রব্যরাশি,
তৃপ্তি যেথা ছিল সেথা এল আড়ম্বর,
শান্তি যেথা ছিল সেথা স্বার্থের সমর।

Why do poets use poems to tell about social injustices? The answer is simple. This way a poet can catch and hold the readers attention, his/her emotions. Usually poets in their works present facts in order to capture attention of many people. These are not new facts that are presented to an audience. Poems are always aimed at reaching feeling of the people, thus, pulling strings. Literature of every state shows all the complexity of every epoch. When the situation is the same at several countries, it has a worldwide significance. Before talking about poetry, we should answer the questions : what is poetry ? poetry is a special way of describing situations, things, ideas, feelings. Poets present their ideas in short phrases.
A poem can be compared to a photograph as it reflects real life, real situations, and feelings. In a poem a poet captures the exact moment and represents it the way he/she has been it. When you read a poem you see the poet’s subjective evaluation of facts, situations and the epoch in general. Poets of the romantic movement wrote their poems to share their feeling. They wrote to help people understand their time from the poet’s point of view.

It is the secret of the world that all things subsist and do not die, but only retire a little from sight and after words return again. Nothing is dead; man-feign themselves dead and endure mock funerals and mournful obituaries and there they stand 100 king out of the window, sound and well, in some new strange disguise. Jesus is not dead; he is very well alive; nor John, nor Paul, nor Mahomet, nor Aristotle; at times we believe we have seen them all, and could easily tell the names under which they go.
